I have a thing for ‘loaded’ recipes. Cheddar, bacon, green onions, sour cream or ranch – those all make EVERYTHING better, if you ask me. This time around, I’m making pan-fried radishes even more amazing by adding those goodies.
Have you tried cooked radishes yet? They’re surprisingly good and I really hope you’ll give them a try if you haven’t yet.
Radishes lose their bite when you cook them and they soften up and become really juicy.
They’re definitely not a potato, but when you pan fry or roast them, they are closer than you’d expect to being potato-y. They never take on that fluffy, starchy potato texture, but the flavor is similar.
How to make loaded radishes:
To start, you’ll want to quarter your radishes.
Add them to a hot skillet along with some avocado oil and season them up with some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook the radishes for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are fork tender.
The longer you cook them, the softer they’ll get. Once the radishes are cooked to your liking, turn the heat off and top them off with a big handful of freshly grated cheddar cheese.
Cover the pan to let the cheese melt. Once the cheese has melted, sprinkle on some fried and crumbled bacon and top it off with some chopped green onions. Such a simple low carb side dish and oh so good! Even my kiddos will eat radishes when they’re cooked!
What to serve with these loaded radishes:
Low Carb Pulled Pork: One of the easiest slow cooker recipes and the pork is so tender and flavorful!
Steak Bites: Always a favorite in our house and perfect for those busy nights when you forgot to marinate your steak!
Spinach Stuffed Chicken: This chicken is a big hit with everyone that tries it!
Slow Cooker Chicken Wings: Another slow cooker favorite in my family! The easy BBQ sauce will surprise you! More low carb side dish recipes:
Brussels Sprouts with Bacon: Simple and delicious!
Broccoli Casserole: This one is for the cheese lovers out there!
Cauliflower Casserole: Another one that’s loaded with cheddar, bacon, and green onions! Also a good option if you’re craving potatoes.

So glad to find ur recipe for radishes. Have been doing keto for 3 yrs now & feel so much better now. I also use red radishes in my crockpot with my roasts, and have used them for faux “potato” salad, which should b eaten the same day it’s prepared as it tends to get a bit watery. I usually make a keto gravy to go with my radishes I fix with my roasts, and I haven’t tried mashing them…yet. Thank u for another method. I plan on using it for Thanksgiving.

I tried your recipe today after reading about radishes being an alternative to potatoes. I pan fried mine and they were soft but not crispy. Hubby liked it and when I told him it was radishes, he was surprised. I did add onion and cut up pastrami plus eggs to make a skillet.
I’m thinking I should rinse the radishes after I cut them and perhaps that will help them to crisp up when I fry them. If not, I’ll try baking them. If that doesn’t pan out, I’ll cook them then fry them or fry them then cook them! I am my own worst nightmare! LOL!!!

I made these today, but i used white radishes. I also peeled them and cut them up like French fries. Then used your idea, and cooked them in a cast iron skillet in bacon grease and heated them in the oven @ 425 for about 25 minutes until they were soft. Then covered them in cheese, bacon and onion and melted the cheese and served. My hubby liked them he was very surprised. I liked them a lot too. Thank you. Renee

Saw this today, I fried radishes yesterday, put them in carb manager, it came up as a F food to avoid, I know they are low carb so why are they a dood to avoid . I scanned the radish package…do you know?
Karly Campbell says
Hi Carolyn! I have no idea why Carb Manager would list them as a food to avoid.

5 stars!
I’ve only ever tried raw radishes, and I’ve gotta say that I’ve been missing out! I think next time I’d bake/roast the radishes in the oven, since that’s just my preferred way to cook. Thanks for sharing this idea, Karly, as I never would have thought about it.

Glad you enjoyed!

Can’t wait to try! I recently tried cooked radishes for 1st time & was delighted! Added radish halves to a Chinese Sichuan veg & shrimp stir fry…came out like a cross between potatoe & water chestnut, & was a great addition WILL cook again!

Delicious! I didn’t use the onions and less garlic and cooked the radishes in the bacon grease! So good! I expected them to get a little more browned or crispy but they didn’t but it was good anyway!

Don’t have a clue what I did wrong. Took 30 minutes in the pan to soften. I think bacon grease would have added more flavor. My family banned me from fixing it again. At least the dog really liked it.
Why wouldn’t bacon grease be keto?
Karly Campbell says
Sorry this one didn’t work out for you. If you try again, maybe increase the heat a bit. You could also cover the pan to speed up the softening if needed.
Bacon grease is keto and would work fine.
Joni says
I made this today… agree with the 30 minutes and they still were kind of crisp tender. Hubby ate all the cheese and onions and told me also to never make it again. A potato replacement it is not… was hopping this was it…☹️
Karly Campbell says
Sorry this one wasn’t a hit for you guys.

Can’t wait to try this yummy recipe. Keto 63 years young and this WOE for 16 months. Released 25 pounds in 4 months and have kept it off, which is such a blessing!! Radishes bother my stomach raw, but I use them as potato replacements often. To me they have the “mouth feel” of potatoe cubes and soak up the flavors very well. After the first of the year am going to be a little more serious about net carbs and try to drop another 5-10 this year. I feel like settling into the weight loss was important for me, and with KETO there is no more unhealthy yo yo dieting.
New to your site Karley..looks like you do a great job putting together recipes. Will definitely be back!

Hi: I’m 71 years old and have been cooking since I was 10. Unfortunately I have been using the wrong ingredients. I don’t ‘do face book, twitter, etc’, so it is a miracle I stumbled upon your recipes. I am so happy. I started on Keto August 1 and I have lost 16 pounds. I do spend a lot more time in the kitchen, but what a difference. I am not snarling, I am not hungry, I am not feeling weak and shaky. These were all results of former diets. God bless you for sharing your delicious recipes.
Karly Campbell says
So glad low carb is working for you and that you found the site and are enjoying the recipes! 🙂
