Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Wings

My slow cooker chicken wings recipe is beyond easy and the 2 ingredient keto BBQ sauce is going to leave you drooling! These crock pot chicken wings are good for a family dinner or as an appetizer when you want to feed a crowd!

My husband and son are straight up obsessed with chicken wings.

My son usually orders the boneless variety, but Chad always goes for the bone in version.

They both love the garlic parmesan wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, but lately my son has been on a BBQ chicken wing kick.

I knew I had to make the boys their favorite wings at home and I’m so happy with these slow cooker chicken wings! I think you’re going to LOVE this easy recipe!

Let’s be real for a minute.

Chicken wings are fine and all, but it’s alllllll about the sauce. Right?? Or is that just me?

I just love saucy foods!

These wings don’t disappoint.

The method is simple! You’ll just grab a bag of thawed chicken wings and toss them in the slow cooker with a little broth, salt and pepper.

I know that slow cooker wings sounds a little strange, but I promise these are going to taste phenomenal. The secret comes in at the end…I’ll share in a minute.

So, first you pop the wings in your slow cooker. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper, add in some broth, put the lid on the slow cooker, and pop it on high.

You’re going to cook these keto chicken wings for 1 hour and 30 minutes on high.

The wings should be just on the verge of falling off the bone. You don’t want the meat totally falling off the bone or it will be difficult to eat, but you want it nice and tender.

Finish them off under the broiler!!

Seriously, this makes all the difference in the world.

Slow cooker wings come out of the crock pot with rubbery skin, but we can totally crisp it up in no time.

I just place the wings in a single layer on a large cookie sheet. You might need to do this in two batches, depending on the size of your cookie sheet.

Pop them under the broiler for a couple of minutes to just start crisping up.

Time for the sauce!!

You won’t believe how easy it is to make low carb BBQ sauce. You just need two ingredients that you probably already have in your house right now!

Reduced sugar or sugar free ketchup + bottled Italian salad dressing!

I know it sounds totally weird, but just wait. The sweet ketchup paired with the tangy Italian dressing makes…keto barbecue sauce! Like magic!

Brush your wings with the sauce and pop them back under the broiler. I like to let the sauce caramelize a bit. It gets sticky and really coats the chicken. So good!

Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Wings

These keto chicken wings are made in the slow cooker. So easy!! And the low carb BBQ sauce is just two ingredients and tastes amazing. We put it on everything!

Cook Time 1 hour 35 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds chicken wing pieces, thawed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup reduced sugar ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Italian salad dressing

Instructions

  1. Add the chicken wing pieces to a 6 quart slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add the chicken broth and cover.
  3. Cook on high for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  4. Remove chicken from the slow cooker and place in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. 
  5. Place chicken under the broiler for 2-3 minutes to allow skin to crisp. Keep a close eye on the chicken as it can burn easily.
  6. In a small bowl, stir together the ketchup and Italian salad dressing until smooth. Brush mixture evenly among the chicken pieces.
  7. Place the coated chicken under the broiler and watch carefully for the sauce to caramelize, about 2 minutes. 
  8. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

These low carb chicken wings are great dipped in ranch dressing!

  1. I would like to make this tonight, but my wings are frozen. Can I put them in the crockpot for a longer time or should I defrost first?

      If you put them in frozen, just increase the cook time. Not sure how much longer it will take.

    Sorry but there is no way this sauce can cover 4lbs of wings. I had 2lbs and it was barely enough (not a big deal to make more though). It tasted like I expected, wings with ketchup and a hint of Italian dressing on them. Sorry I hate to sound harsh.

  4. I read you write up and then read your recipe and then read the comments. Looks like perhaps you should update the text in this article with correct information. Because it says all you need is frozen chicken wings with salt and pepper in the crockpot to begin. When I look at the actual recipe it has thawed chicken wings and chicken broth and garlic powder….so do we put that in the crockpot….or is it really just frozen wings and sauce? It almost looks like the article was written separate from the actual recipe or the recipe is not the one that the article is referencing either way it’s a lot of confusion. I would like to give it a try and I can tell from the comments that the wings should be thawed but do I add the chicken broth? Thank you so much for the recipe, I have no sugar added ketchup by Heinz but be careful when shopping for it because it has a blue label across it but so does a similar one but it’s not the same it’s only a low sodium version. So be sure to get the no sugar added one. It’s much more tomato flavour and a little bit saucier then regular ketchup but is so much better for your overall health. Who needs all that sugar? Not me!

      Sorry about the confusion, Leanne! You’ll want to follow the recipe card – thawed wings with broth. The written article is just a brief how-to (usually with photos), but I don’t go into great detail there. I updated it to be more accurate though!
