I’m from the Midwest and you can tell it by my salads.
I will always go for an iceberg salad with ranch dressing. Sorry, not sorry.
It’s a very Midwestern salad and I do not even care a little bit.
You can keep your soft, flimsy, dark green weeds. I want my crunchy water-flavored lettuce.
As for the dressing?
Ranch.
Always ranch.
I am a connoisseur of ranch dressing, to be perfectly honest.
There are two restaurants in my hometown that I eat at mostly because they have really good ranch dressing. The rest of the food is fine, but what keeps me coming back is the ranch.
My keto ranch dressing is quite tasty, if I do say so myself! It’s packed with big bold flavors from fresh herbs and a little tang from the vinegar.
And here’s the best part – this homemade carnivore ranch works perfectly for both keto AND carnivore diets! Unlike store-bought versions loaded with vegetable oils, stabilizers, and hidden sugars, this simple ranch uses only real, whole ingredients. No weird additives, no seed oils, just the good stuff your great-grandmother would recognize.
You’re going to want to drizzle this keto ranch dressing with heavy cream on all of your salads (like our BLT salad with chicken or our keto taco salad!) from now until forever, but don’t stop there! It makes a great dip for fresh veggies too. It’s also perfect drizzled over our Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole and our Keto Buffalo Chicken Pizza!

3 Reasons You’ll Love This Carnivore & Keto Ranch
Perfect for any low-carb lifestyle. Whether you’re keto, carnivore, or just trying to eat cleaner, this ranch has you covered without compromising on that classic ranch taste we all crave.
It’s ridiculously simple. Just whisk everything together in one bowl – no fancy equipment or complicated steps required. Most of the “work” is just waiting for the flavors to meld in the fridge.
Clean ingredients only. No seed oils, no preservatives, no weird additives that you can’t pronounce. Just real mayo, sour cream, and seasonings that actually belong in food.
Ingredient Notes:

Mayonnaise – This along with the sour cream and heavy cream will make up the base of the ranch dressing. We like Kraft mayo, but you can certainly use Duke’s, Hellman’s, or an avocado oil based mayo. For keto and carnivore, stick with mayo that is made without seed oils or make your own at home!
Sour Cream – That tangy goodness is needed here! Full fat is the way to go.
Heavy Cream – It’ll add even more rich, creamy goodness to the ranch dressing. You could use buttermilk instead if you are not following a strict keto diet. It is a bit heavier in carbs, but not bad!
Vinegar – Some regular white distilled vinegar will add a bit of zesty, tangy flavor to the dressing!
Garlic – A couple of minced cloves of garlic will add great flavor to the dressing. You could use more or less garlic depending on how much you like the flavor.
Herbs – You’ll need some dill and parsley. You can use fresh or freeze-dried herbs here. They measure the same. If using dried herbs, a good rule of thumb is to use 1/3 the amount called for of fresh herbs.
Chives – They’ll add a bit of subtle onion flavor to the ranch dressing!
Seasoning – A bit of salt and onion powder is all you need.
This ranch is naturally carnivore-friendly since it contains only animal products and minimal seasonings. If you’re following a strict carnivore diet, you can omit the herbs, but it will change the flavor quite a bit.

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl.

Stir to combine and adjust to suit your tastes. You may need a splash more vinegar or a pinch more salt.
What To Serve With Homemade Ranch Dressing:
This ranch is incredible with:
- Any side salad or fresh low-carb veggies
- Hard-boiled eggs (seriously underrated combo!)
- Pork rinds for dipping
- Slow cooker chicken wings – they were made to be dunked in ranch!
Drizzle it over your serving of this low carb taco casserole. (I told you I’m from the Midwest. I even put ranch on my tacos!)
Use this dressing to make my broccoli salad and skip the packaged ranch mix.
Drizzle it over these fried radishes and sprinkle on some cheddar. They’ll taste a bit like loaded potatoes.

Storage
Fridge life: Keeps for at least 5 days covered in the refrigerator. We store it in mason jars or this shaker salad dressing bottle.
Make-ahead magic: This actually tastes better after sitting for a few hours, so make it in the morning for dinner that night.
Freezer situation: Please don’t. It’ll get funky.

Are the herbs, such as chives, dill, and parsley, dried or fresh?
Karly Campbell says
We use freeze dried herbs.
Karly Campbell says
Sorry, hit reply too soon. We use freeze dried herbs, which are comparable to fresh herbs. If using dried, use about 1/3 to 1/2 of the amount of add more to taste.

I figured this would be good, but holy moly! It is better than anything you could buy in the store (I don’t like store bought ranch at all). It’s even better than the mix you buy and make with buttermilk! I will be making this constantly – thank you! P.S. I used dried herbs because I never have fresh when I need it.

May I ask what kind of mayo you use?
Karly Campbell says
I use Kraft mayo, but any that you like should be fine.
Greg says
Hello,
To clarify, does this only last for 5 days in the fridge or am I misinterpreting the #3 of the instructions.
Thank you,
Greg
Karly Campbell says
Hi Greg! Yes, that’s correct. I’m not a food safety expert, but we keep it in our fridge for 5 days with no issues.
