Green Beans – I’m using fresh trimmed green beans in this recipe. They’re nice and crisp and you can cook them until they are as tender as you like! Frozen green beans would likely work well, but do not use canned green beans in this recipe.
Slivered Almonds – You can buy slivered almonds at most grocery stores, or online. They add a wonderful crunchy, chewy, nutty texture that pairs well with the green beans and garlic.
Garlic & Butter – You will melt some butter and then cook the garlic along with the almonds in the butter for a couple of minutes to make a savory sauce that’ll go over the green beans.
Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed citrus juice will help brighten the colors and enhance the flavors. You’ll add this in with the garlic butter and almond mixture.
Salt & Pepper – You can add more or less of this to taste.
Citrus Juicer
Freshly squeezed lime and lemon juice is useful in lots of recipes, and this tool makes it easy and mess free.
How To Make Green Bean Almondine:
- Green Beans – To start, you’ll need a pound of fresh trimmed green beans.
Pop those in a bit of water and bring to a boil. Cover and let cook for a few minutes until the beans are as tender as you’d like. We like to leave them just a bit crunchy, but cook however you’d like! Drain the green beans and place them in a serving dish.
- Garlic Butter Almonds – Return the pan to the heat and add in a pat of butter and let it melt. Stir in some minced garlic and sliced almonds and cook those for just a minute or two, until the garlic is nice and fragrant.
- Finish – Remove from the heat and squeeze in some fresh lemon juice. Pour that mixture right over your green beans and dig in! These green beans are so flavorful!
Can green beans almondine be made ahead of time?
Yes! Go ahead and prepare the green beans until cooked to your liking and then store them in the fridge.
When you’re ready to eat, add 2 tablespoons of water to a skillet along with the green beans, and heat over medium heat with a lid on until the beans are hot.
Remove the beans and finish off the recipe making the lemon garlic sauce. Easy peasy!
FAQ’s:
You can keep any leftovers stored in the fridge in an airtight container for about 3 to 4 days. The almonds may lose some of their crispness after storage in the fridge so this is best enjoyed fresh!
We like slightly crisp green beans for this almondine recipe and canned green beans are already pretty tender. Fresh green beans will work much better, and you can still cook them until they are as tender as you like.
