Everything bagel seasoning mix that you can make at home in seconds! Plus, three of my favorite ways to use this magical seasoning blend! You need this in your spice cabinet!
If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, you probably tried Everything But the Bagel seasoning years ago. You probably already know how magical it really is.
If you don’t live near a TJ’s (like me, boohoo), then you have maybe not discovered this goodness quite yet.
No worries, you’re going to make my everything but the bagel seasoning recipe and all will be right in your world!
First, let’s chat about what you can use this seasoning blend on.
How to use Everything But The Bagel Seasoning:
It may seem like a good use would be on a low carb bagel, and that’s an obvious choice that I would not disagree with. But there is so much more you can do with this seasoning blend!
My top three favorite choices are below:
Celery + whipped cream cheese + bagel seasoning = snack perfection!
This is just about the easiest snack and it’s seriously so good. I don’t even like celery and I eat this. True story. Carrots and other veggies are good too!
My next best use for everything bagel mix is scrambled eggs!
Just scramble up some eggs in a little butter and then sprinkle on the seasoning before serving. Bonus points if you stir a little cream cheese into your scrambled eggs just before they finish cooking. It makes the BEST scrambled eggs and the bagel seasoning mix just takes it over the top.
Another option for using with eggs are these everything bagel deviled eggs!
And my absolute FAVORITE way to use everything bagel seasoning is over cottage cheese.
I eat this for breakfast almost every. single. day.
Cottage cheese is packed with protein, so it keeps me full until lunch, plus it’s beyond simple to toss on a plate and devour. Spice it up with everything bagel seasoning and it is seriously so good.
You can also sprinkle this over an avocado (make avocado toast with one of our toasted chaffles), sprinkle it over steamed cauliflower, season chicken breasts with it, or top my low carb crackers with this! Seafood like salmon is a popular choice, and even a steak tastes good topped with this seasoning mix!

Sesame Seeds – You can use white sesame seeds or black sesame seeds here. I’d recommend using toasted sesame seeds instead of untoasted. They have a far superior nutty flavor!
Poppy Seeds – It just wouldn’t be a classic Everything Bagel seasoning without the poppy seeds!
Garlic & Onion – You’ll need minced and dried garlic and dried onion.
Sea Salt – I know that salt is salt but texture matters! In this case, I’d recommend using a coarse flaky sea salt for the seasoning instead of a finely ground sea salt. Kosher salt works too.
- Simple: With just a few ingredients it takes no time at all to whip up your own homemade Everything Bagel seasoning! Just a quick bit of mixing is all it takes.
- Control: You can adjust the seasoning to suit our taste! Use more or less salt, try toasted instead of untoasted sesame seeds, or adjust the amounts of other ingredients to make it exactly how you want!
How To Make Everything Bagel Seasoning:
- Combine – This is beyond simple, guys! Just grab some sesame seeds, flaky sea salt, dried minced onion, and dried minced garlic and toss that all together in a small bowl. The store bought version includes black sesame seeds as well, and you can totally add them in. However, I can never find them in local grocery stores so I just leave them out. If you can find them or want to order them online, go for it! Amazon sells them.
- Store: Add the seasoning mix to an empty spice jar (an old leftover one or a new one) and store in your spice cabinet for up to 1 year.
FAQ’s:
This seasoning comes from the popular “everything” variety of bagels, which are topped with the mixture of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, salt, garlic, and onion!
Just the same way you’d store any other seasoning! Put it in an airtight container like a bottle or sealed jar, and store in a cool dry place. It should last for at least 3 months depending on the freshness of the ingredients used.

thanks for the recipe, I have been buying the everything bagel spice and like love using it on various things but I find it a little bit too salty so I love the idea of making it myself and being able to control how much salt I put in it!

To take this from good to FANTASTIC, toast all ingredients except salt, in a skillet on med/high heat until fragrant. Allow to cool, add salt, enjoy. This step makes all the difference in the world.

Hello, so does the sesame have to be toasted? or soft?
Karly Campbell says
I just use the sesame seeds you find in the spice aisle.
