This rich, creamy KETO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE RECIPE is ready to devour in about 10 minutes! It feels very fancy and decadent, but has just 3 net carbs per serving.
I couldn’t survive my low carb life if it didn’t include a bit of CHOCOLATE! I bet many of you can relate. 😉
While I often just keep it simple and reach for something like a Lily’s chocolate bar, I also love to get in the kitchen and whip up a dessert that I can share with my family.
Yes, they all eat and love our keto desserts too! I’m pretty picky about that ‘sweetener aftertaste’ so I do my best to eliminate it altogether. Keep reading for how I do that and what products I use!I just know you’ll love this easy chocolate mousse recipe. Nothing better than a 10 minute dessert!

This recipe calls for just 5 ingredients: cream cheese, heavy cream, cocoa powder, sweetener, and vanilla (plus a pinch of salt).
You’ll start by beating cream cheese until it’s fluffy and then you’ll add the rest of the ingredients and beat all that together until it’s thick, rich, and creamy. <— Bam, keto chocolate mousse!
It really doesn’t get more simple than that for dessert.
The reason there isn’t a whole lot of that ‘sweetener aftertaste’ has to do with the type of sweetener used (keep reading!) and the combination of ingredients: cream cheese + sweetener is pretty magical. The rich, tangy flavor of the cream cheese seems to counteract any aftertaste you might normally detect.
Products I use:
I use and love Lakanto Sweeteners. They’re a mix of monkfruit and erythritol, which are both natural sweeteners. Lakanto is a ZERO on the glycemic index, which means that it will not spike your blood glucose and can be counted as zero net carbs. It also has the least aftertaste of all the sweeteners and brands that I’ve tried…and I’ve tried most of them. 😉
Use the powdered sweetener in this recipe.

You can certainly use any cocoa powder that you have on hand, but keep in mind that this recipe has very minimal ingredients. This means that the better quality they are, the better the dessert will taste.
If you really want to be fancy, this Valrhona cocoa powder is amazing.
For something a bit more economical but still very nice, try Rodelle.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with Hershey’s cocoa powder either. 😉
Garnish:
This keto chocolate mousse is delicious as it is, but you can really take it over the top with a few extras!
Give the mousse a dollop of homemade whipped cream (or squirt some out from a can, no shame)!
Use a vegetable peeler to shave a chocolate bar over the top of the mousse. I absolutely love Lily’s Chocolate.
A couple of raspberries or strawberries are perfect with this. They add a little pop of tart flavor that helps cut the richness of the mousse.
More low carb desserts:
Keto Blackberry Cobbler: You won’t believe how easy this is!
Peanut Butter Cup Chaffle: You can’t go wrong with this flavor combo!
Keto Pumpkin Pie: I eat pumpkin pie all year long!
Keto Snickerdoodles: You HAVE to try these – the texture and flavor is perfect.

Ingredients
- 6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- ¼ cup powdered sweetener
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
- Chocolate shavings, raspberries, whipped cream, for garnish
Instructions
- Add the cream cheese to a mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix on low speed until well incorporated.
- Increase speed to high and beat until light and fluffy.
- Spoon mixture into 6 serving bowls and top with chocolate, raspberries, and whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
I use and recommend Lakanto sweetener for this recipe. Using other sweeteners may effect the sweetness level in this dessert. With Lakanto, I would call this a semi-sweet mousse, leaning towards dark chocolate. You may add more or less sweetener to your tastes.

I made it to the specs and it was a hit with my wife. But I served it in bowl with wipped cream. She loved it!
Karly Campbell says
You can’t beat whipped cream on top!
Ruthann Sitter says
Can you freeze this mousse recipe??
Karly Campbell says
We’ve never tried freezing this one. Not sure how it would hold up.
Noreen says
I made this using Swerve Confectioner’s and Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa. I fell in love with the first spoonful. We just added a little whipped cream on top. I’ve already decided that the next time I make it I am going to add coffee extract and have me a Mocha Mousse! 🙂
Karly Campbell says
Great idea to add coffee! 🙂

Hi
Great tasting mousse, love it. Two questions, first what is considered a serving size. second, can you use nestles strawberry powered for a different flavor?
Karly Campbell says
Hi! I didn’t measure the mousse by volume – just divided it equally into 6 serving dishes, but it should be somewhere around 1/2 cup. I haven’t tried this with Nestle’s products because they’re sweetened. I imagine they would work but the carb count will go up.
Lisa says
I could not get this mousse to set up. I followed the recipe to the tee. How long do I need to beat it to get it fluffy. Mine was like pudding even after beating it for 5 minutes. Any pointers?
Karly Campbell says
Hi Lisa! Sounds like it just needed to keep going. You want to use cold whipping cream from the fridge and make sure you’re using real heavy cream, not half and half or another lighter version.
Karen says
I taste like eating a mousse shot. I may try it again later but will cut back on the vanilla.
