Cheesy Baked Asparagus

This BAKED ASPARAGUS is layered with cheese, bacon, and garlic. It’s quick enough to make any night of the week, but it’s impressive enough to serve to dinner guests too!

I’ve said before that I’m not the world’s biggest asparagus fan. But, my boys totally love it so I keep experimenting to find new ways to cook it in the hopes that I’ll fall in love.

I have a few recipes on the site that I think are pretty good, but I believe this cheesy baked asparagus might just be my new favorite way to enjoy this green veggie!

Bonus points: It’s so quick and easy to prepare! You’re going to love this one!

How to bake asparagus:

Asparagus bakes quickly and easily at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Nothing difficult there!

But, let’s dress this baked asparagus up with some cheese, bacon, and spice!

asparagus covered in cheese and bacon.

Place half of your asparagus in a baking dish, top it off with a drizzle of oil, a sprinkle of salt,  a little minced garlic, some crispy fried bacon, and a handful of cheese. I used Gruyere here, but you can use whatever cheese you love!

Repeat those layers and then pop the whole dish in the oven for 25 minutes.

Cooking asparagus in the oven is so simple!

I like to sprinkle some red pepper flakes over the top after the baked asparagus is cooked through, but you can skip this step if you’re not into spice.

Carbs in asparagus:

Asparagus has .6g carbs and .3g fiber per medium spear, which means that this healthy green vegetable can definitely fit into a low carb diet quite nicely.

Is asparagus keto?

Yes! At just .3 net carbs per spear, you can eat a healthy portion with no problems here.

I’ve added cheese and bacon to up the fat content (and flavor!), so it’s pretty perfect for keto.

  1. Our go to asparagus is simply break the tough ends off, wash and drain. Wrap 4-6 spears in a slice of raw bacon. Bake at 425° until bacon is crisp as you like it and the asparagus is cooked to your liking. This works well on a grill or griddle too!

That’s what I figured while reading this receipe… Thank you, Suzie.

  3. The asparagus wasn’t done after 25 minutes and the cheese was crunchy (all the fat from the cheese dissociated and pooled at the bottom of the dish (I used Gruyere cheese). Next time, I will cook the asparagus before combining the ingredients and put in the oven only long enough to melt the cheese.
